SUMMARY:SYMPHONY PRESENTS TWO CONCERTS IN JUNE
DESCRIPTION:The North Oregon Coast Symphony concludes its 2025-26 season with two\nconcerts in June titled “Ancient Echoes\, New Tides.” These will be very\nspecial events\, as the orchestra is honored to present the world premiere\nperformances of We Await a Glassy Sea by composer Isabella Morrill. This\nrich\, evocative piece was commissioned for NOCS by two generous donors\,\nand has become a favorite of our musicians.\nAnother highlight of the program will be Cécile Chaminade’s lovely\nConcertino for Flute and Orchestra\, featuring NOCS flautist Melissa Lagerquist.\nOutdoor Overture by the famous American composer Aaron Copland and\nSymphony No. 5 by the lesser known Ferdinand Ries will round out the\nperformances. Melodies in Copland’s piece probably will sound familiar to\nan audience\, as will some themes in Ries’s symphony. Ries studied and\nworked with Beethoven\, whose musical influence on Ries is obvious. \nThe first concert will take place on Saturday\, June 13 at the Nehalem\nElementary School Gym (36300 8th St.\, Nehalem\, OR) beginning at 3:00 pm.\nThe second concert will be on Sunday\, June 14\, at the Charlene Larsen\nCenter for the Performing Arts (588 16th St.\, Astoria\, OR) at 3:00 pm.\nAdmission for both concerts will be: $10 Adults\, ages 18 and under FREE\n(children 12 and under with adult supervision.) Tickets will be available at\nthe door for the Nehalem concert (cash and personal checks only.)\nTickets for the Astoria concert are available online at LarsenCenter.org or by\nphone at 503-338-9132.\nThis non-profit orchestra\, under the direction of conductor Cory Pederson\,\nbrings together musicians from the north Oregon and south Washington coast\nto perform classical music for local audiences.
