We should be seeing some fall colors from the big leaf and vine maples\, maybe even some wild mushrooms! \nWhat to Expect: We will hike along the Nehalem River to Snark Creek (1.5 miles in)\, ~3 miles total. The vegetation in this segment is dense along the path\, please weary sturdy\, closed toed shoes and long pants. Bring a snack and plenty of water for yourself. \nThere’s no formal address and no cell coverage in the area\, so here’s the most reliable description: \nMeet at the North end of the Foss Road bridge over the Salmonberry River \nLandmarks: 15.2 miles east of Mohler\, 13 miles south of Elsie Nearest known point: Morrison Eddy Campground (the hike parking area is 1.3 miles south on Foss Road) \nCoordinates: 45°44’60.0”N\, 123°39’08.9”W \nMap link: https://maps.app.goo.gl/TrfHCtE91yVFGeQZA \nWe want everyone to get into the canyon—and out—smoothly. \nHow to Get There (Read This Part)\nComing from the Portland area:\n– Head west toward Elsie\n– If you reach the restaurant in Elsie\, you’ve gone too far\n– Turn onto Lower Nehalem Road and stay on it all the way to the destination \nComing from Wheeler / Coast side:\n– Take Highway 53 to Miami-Foley Road\n– Follow Miami-Foley to Foss Road\n– Stay on Foss Road to the bridge \n

SUMMARY:More than headstones: The Work of Historic Cemetery Preservation
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Saturday\, October 17th @ 5pm for a presentation about the amazing & important work it takes to preserve our local cemeteries.\n\nThe presentation is free\, but seating is limited. Please reserve your seat at: https://www.eventbrite.com/…/more-than-headstones-the…\n\nTCPM is thrilled to host the Tillamook County Historial Society’s Cemetery Preservation Group presenters\, Kathy Bean & Lisa Sears\, to discuss the many areas of historic cemetery preservation. Not only the cleaning and care of gravestones\, but also the restoration of original cemetery landscapes\, documentation (including use of Find a Grave app to add GPS to burial sites locations)\, and research into the people and history represented in these cemeteries. The presentation will also briefly address endowed and non-endowed cemeteries\, perpetual care\, and what these designations mean for the ongoing maintenance and preservation of a cemetery.\n\nAbout the PresentersKathy Bean – Kathy began doing family history at the young age of 19. She has gone on to earn an Associate Degree in Family History and certificates in both Family History Research and Advanced Family History Research. She has worked in 3 different family history centers\, taught family history classes in English and Spanish\, and helped many people find their own family origins. Kathy has been doing gravestone preservation since 2021.Lisa Sears – A family historian for more than 35 years\, Lisa has visited cemeteries throughout Oregon and has a particular interest in the preservation of historic cemeteries and the stories of the people buried in them. She joined the Oregon Commission on Historic Cemeteries in 2021 and currently serves as a Coastal Commissioner.\n\nHistory of the Cemetery Preservation GroupThe Cemetery Preservation Group began in the summer of 2020 with a mapping project of Tillamook IOOF Cemetery. This project demonstrated the value of documenting cemetery locations and burial sites\, and became the beginning of a larger community effort to preserve local historic cemeteries. In May 2021\, a community cleanup was organized at Bay City Cemetery. Following the cleanup\, a number of community members expressed an interest in continuing to work on preservation projects in the cemetery. A grant was subsequently secured through the Oregon Commission on Historic Cemeteries to support gravestone cleaning during the summer of 2021. What began as a single cleanup project grew into an ongoing community preservation effort. In January 2022\, the group officially became a committee under the umbrella of the Tillamook County Historical Society. Since then\, the committee has worked in several Tillamook County cemeteries\, generally from late spring through early fall\, carrying out projects focused on preservation\, documentation\, restoration\, and research.

SUMMARY:Cape Lookout Stewardship Day
DESCRIPTION:Contact: \nmarina@netartsbaywebs.org\n \nJoin WEBS for a Rewarding Day of Stewardship at Cape Lookout State Park \nCome and spend a meaningful day outdoors with WEBS staff and volunteers on Friday 16th\, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.\, helping care for one of Oregon’s most treasured coastal parks. \nWhile Cape Lookout’s campground and day-use area are temporarily closed for construction\, volunteers have a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact by improving a trail at the park. This hands-on stewardship project is open to all experience levels. Please note that the work is physically demanding and is not suitable for youth under the age of 14. \nWe’ll meet at the Cape Lookout Trailhead and hike approximately 1.5 miles along the trail to our work site. Once there\, volunteers will help carry buckets of gravel to strengthen one of the trail’s muddiest sections\, creating a safer\, more durable walking surface. We’ll also use hand tools to level the trail and improve drainage\, mitigating erosion and protecting this beautiful landscape for future visitors. \nWhether you’re looking to give back\, enjoy time in nature\, or learn new trail-building skills\, this is a fantastic opportunity to work alongside Oregon State Park rangers and fellow community volunteers. Come prepared to get your hands dirty\, make new connections\, and leave knowing you’ve made a real difference for Cape Lookout State Park! \nIf you have any questions or concerns\, please reach out to marina@netartsbaywebs.org. \nLearn more and  register on our website at: \nhttps://www.netartsbaywebs.org/events \nConsider donating:   \nYour donation helps in supporting the work of our organization. Every little bit helps!  As a non-profit organization\, we rely on donations and grants to keep us going\, and growing.   \nIf you would like to donate\, please visit our website. \nWEBS and partners are hosting this event as part of the Explore Nature series of hikes\, walks\, paddles\, and outdoor adventures. Led by a consortium of volunteer community and non-profit organizations\, these meaningful nature-based experiences highlight the unique beauty of Tillamook County and the work being done to preserve and conserve the area’s natural resources and natural resource-based economy. Learn more about Explore Nature at www.explorenaturetillamookcoast.com. \nStay social with Friends of Netarts Bay WEBS online @netartsbaywebs

SUMMARY:YMCA & Kiwanis Diaper Drive – Help Us Outgive Rotary!
DESCRIPTION:It’s a friendly competition for a great cause\, and we need YOUR help to win! \nThe Tillamook County Family YMCA is teaming up with the Kiwanis Club of Tillamook for a community-wide Diaper Drive benefiting Healthy Families Oregon – Northwest Oregon\, which supports local families with young children. \nAnd here’s the fun part: Kiwanis is going head-to-head with Rotary! We love our friends at Rotary\, but let’s be honest…Kiwanis would really like to beat them! 😉 \nHere’s how you can help: \nDrop off diapers\, baby wipes\, diaper rash ointment\, or cloth diapers at the Tillamook County Family YMCA throughout October. Disposable diapers in sizes 4 and up are especially needed\, but all sizes are welcome! \nWhen: October 1–31\, 2026 \nWhere: Tillamook County Family YMCA\, 610 Stillwell Avenue\, Tillamook \nDrop-off Hours: \nMonday–Friday: 5 AM–9 PM \nSaturday: 8 AM–Noon \nEvery donation helps a local family\, and every diaper gets us one step closer to bragging rights over Rotary! \nLet’s show what happens when our community comes together. Help us fill the Y with diapers\, support local families\, and give Kiwanis a victory worth celebrating! \n  \nBecause at the end of the day\, the real winners are Tillamook County families. ❤️ \n
